White Painted Krater
Pottery crater (mixing or serving bowl) in White Painted wheelmade I ware; wheelmade; deep carinated body, somewhat squat, with a flat everted rim (squared profile); originally there was probably a ring base - the current disc base is a modern restoration; opposing loop handles with oval sections located at the shoulder. Made of fairly fine buff to cream fabric, decorated with brown-black painted motifs: bands filled with wavy lines at the top and bottom of the field; this is filled with large birds drawn in silhouette, flanked by inverted-lattice tiangles and chevrons, all crudely executed.
