Bearded Male Statue Head
Front part of a limestone head of a bearded male wearing a turban-like headress, from a statue of a votary or a priest; oval face, with the remains of a large, jutting-out beard on the right side; the beard appears to have been rendered plain, without individual strands or curls being shown; prominent nose with with defined eyebrow ridges; oval eyes with prominent socket ridges; high cheekbones; the mouth shows a slight smile. the headress is composed of a rolled band of fabric extended around the forehead, with a flap down across the middle of the head to the back; the top of the head is shown plain, without any details of the hair (unless we are to imagine that the whole crown was covered with the headress, but a line of large snail-curles defines the forehead just below the 'turban'. Apart from missing the back of the head, the left cheek and eye are also damaged.
