Bichrome Red Ware Figurine Jug
Description: | Pottery Bichrome Red ware jug with terracotta attachment in the form of a woman holding a miniature jug (or oinochoe) acting as a spout; wheelmade ovoid body with long, slightly concave neck; flaring ring base; vertical double strap handle from shoulder to below mouth; cream-white clay and red slip; decorated with black and white paint: horizontal bands of black paint around the body and neck, wavy band on neck, black triangles on a white band below rim, pair of black birds in silloutte between tree schematic tree branches on each side of shoulder; neck broken and partly missing; vase partially restored; handmade female figurine is dressed in a long robe with schematic 'feet' merging with the parallels bands of the main body; simply modelled face; hair, mostly covered with a cap, is parted in centre over the forehead and tied up at the back into a chignon; her right hand is arched forward holding a pierced globular jug with black painted bands, her left extends straight forward to grip the side of the miniature vase; upper part of the miniature vase is broken.
