Bichrome Figural Amphora
Large pottery amphora in Bichrome Ware with figural scenes; wheel-made; ovoid biconcal body on a narrow flat base; wide cylindrical neck, tapering upwards towards an everted rim; pair of large opposing handles on the shoulder; made of buff clay with a cream surface (probably the result of firing rather than a slip) decorated with red and black paint: a procession of sphinxes and women on the shoulder; on the neck files of rosettes arranged horizontally between guilloches and plain bands; the handles are painted solid black but the lower body is plain.
