Bichrome Bird Oinochoe

Pottery oinochoe or jug in Bichrome ware with figural decoration of birds in Free Field style; ovoid body on a low ring base; wide conical neck with a trefoil mouth; strap handle from shoulder to rim; reddish clay with deep buff slip, decorated in black and red paint: two fantastic birds facing the right, both standing on flowers (one a lotus blossom) sniffing the ends, one figure quite eroded; they are drawn in silhouette with some hatching of wings; also parallel bands on the neck and rim with a single wavy line in red; a pair of eyes on the spout; part of the spout is missing and the surface is very worn in places.
