Astarte Terracotta Figurine
Terracotta figurine of a naked female of the 'Astarte' type; hand-made; slender body with a flat-topped head; she holds her hands to her abdomen, below her slightly conical-shaped breasts; the digits of the hands and feet are indicated as rough parallel incisions on the clay; signs of shaving with a tool on the legs; applied pellets for eyes, ears also added separately; the pelvic area is emphasised with parallel incisions marking a triangle; made of buff-brown clay, decorated with red and black-purple paint: parallel bands around the neck may represent a necklace, black hair and red lips, the pelvic area is solid black-purple paint.
