Own goddess

The mother goddess who is enthroned on a throne woman with toddler. She wears a floor -length robe and is decorated with a necklace; The long hair falling on the shoulders is covered by a polo.In her arms she holds a toddler lying on her lap, which is wrapped in a blanket and carries a hood on her head.Remains of red painting are preserved on the throne and the robe of the woman. The statuettes of a sitting woman who has been particularly popular since archaic time who breastfeeds or keeps a toddler on her lap are mostly interpreted as a motherly-nutrient goddess, the so-called coreotrophos. This motif, the role moderator from Egypt (ISIS, who breastfeeds the Horus boy) and is based on Asia Minor (Kybele), continues to live in the Christian pictures of Madonna. As mass products, these votive gifts are an expression of a religious folk art.Bernhard-Walcher and others, the Cypricer Antique Collection in the KHM.Collection catalogs of the KHM Vol. 2, Vienna 1999 H. 12 cm, B. 6,5 cm, D. 3,3 cm
