Head from a votive statue: An underlife size head of a bearded male from a votive statue. The man is wearing a conical hat and has a slight smile. His eyes are almond shaped and are well defined. His nose is broken and the facial features have faded. The head is typical of the devotional statues dressed in Egyptian style and found in different archaeological sites of Cyprus. These statues date mainly in the Archaic period and are often associated with the political period of Egyptian domination in the island from around 560 BC under the political control of Amasis. They may have been made by Cypriot sculptors or others who trained on the island to fill orders by worshippers of local Egyptian gods.
