White Painted Woman-and-Pitcher Jug
Neck, handle and part of shoulder of a pottery 'woman-and-pitcher' jug type; wheel-made body with a mould-made attached figurine; a ridge separates what is left of the shoulder of the vessel from the concave neck; everted rim; double-rib handles from shoulder to just below the rim, with a pair of spikey clay rivets at the junction with the neck. The figurine is a standing female, wearing a tunic with cloak (which is pulled over the back of her head); left hand grips the cloak while resting on her hip, right knee forward; her right arm is broken away at the shoulder, so it is not clear if she held a jug or reached towards a jug or some other item. There is also a break on her body from the level of the knee down where another elemnt was attached. Made of brick-red clay, surface fired a buff-cream colour.
