Archaic II
Limestone Dog Figurine
Limestone figurine of a dog (?) standing on hind legs against a pillar or stele with moulded courses; the animal has an elongated body with clearly visible rib cagel; the head is lost but traces of what looks like a collar can be seen at the junction of head and neck; the hind legs appear to grip either side of the stele. The top of the stele has a cavetto moulding, broken at the top (so possibly originally with an additional moulding); there are traces of red paint (garlands?) on the shaft. Both the pillar and the animal stand on a irregularly-shaped base. Dimensions: Height: 11.50 centimetres max Object Type: figure Techniques: carved; painted
