White Painted Amphora of Onasilos

Large pottery amphora in White Painted ware with a painted Cypriot Syllabic inscription recording the name of Onasilos; wheelmade; ovoid body on a large ring base; wide cylindrical neck with an off-set squared rim ; pair of large opposing loop handles; buff clay and cream slip, decorated with matt brown paint: bands on the body and neck; lotus buds on the body; a zig-zag motif on the rim; solid paint on the handles and base; the inscription on the shoulder of the vase consists of five characters, arranged sinistroverse, in brown paint; much of the vase, including some of the decoration, is restored.
