Terracotta Horse and Rider

Terracotta figure of horse and rider with shield, hand-made; the horse's body is elongated with short legs stretched front and back as if running; his large eyes are emphasised with black paint; the tail is resting along the back right leg; the harnessing and breast-decorations are modelled with clay; the rider's legs are bent backwards along the animal's body; exaggerated facial features with ears and locks of hair applied as pellets of clay; he holds a small, round shield with a slightly curving surface; made of buff clay decorated with black paint, very worn in places.
