Bichrome Red Jug
Large pottery jug in Bichrome Red ware, reconstructed from sherds with much restoration; wheel-made spherical body on a ring base; the narrow tapering neck and double handle are modern; buff clay with red slip decorated in black and white paint: wide band of concentric circles on each side, with central motif (possibly a bulls eye), now damaged and restored, surrounded by small groups of concentric circles; below the neck is a large flower head in white paint, possibly a styled lotus, sitting on three stalk-like lines forming a triangle, the whole motif is flanked on each side by three groups of concentric circles, with a much larger group beneath; the junction of the body and neck is marked by a black collar decorated with white dots; portions of the body of the vase are also restored, and one side of the vase is very blackened, possibly from firing, an effect the restorer has also reproduced.
